Hwajin Cosmetics Co., Ltd., a company specializing in manufacturing cosmetics and health functional foods, which is celebrating its 36th anniversary this year, is working hard on R&D to boost the bio industry.
In 2014, the biotechnology research institute was established and the ratio of R&D investment for bioactivity increased significantly. The following three national projects are in progress. First, perilla variety development and raw materialization (Regional innovative creative manpower training project, Ministry of Education). Second, the efficacy evaluation of local specialties and product development (grass-roots business promotion project, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy). Third, development of health care products using fermentation technology using cultured wild ginseng somatic cells (Economic Cooperation Zone Industry Promotion Project, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy)
The economic cooperation zone industry promotion project in connection with the Jeju-Gangwon region is a national project carried out with a research grant of KRW 3 billion for three years from June 2015 to April 2018. With wild ginseng culture root as the main raw material, it proceeds in the first standardization process, the second functional preclinical/clinical test, and the third individual recognition application stage.
